What a brilliant week we have had in school! From classrooms full of learning to exciting activities across the week, there has been a real buzz around the school. But the highlight was definitely our much-anticipated Sports Day!

After keeping one eye nervously on the forecast earlier in the week, the weather turned just in time and we were treated to a glorious afternoon of traditional Sports Day fun in the sunshine. The field was filled with excitement, cheering and plenty of competitive spirit as pupils took part in a fantastic range of races and activities.

We are incredibly proud of all of the children for making the afternoon such a success. For some pupils, Sports Day gave them the chance to shine and show off their speed, skill and determination. For others, it was an opportunity to demonstrate amazing resilience, sportsmanship; encouraging friends, picking themselves up after setbacks and giving every event their absolute best. The support the children showed one another throughout the afternoon was wonderful to see.

A huge congratulations goes to Gower, who were crowned the overall winners this year. Well done to our worthy champions!

A very big thank you must also go to Mr Howles for organising such a fantastic event. As always, a huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes to make Sports Day run so smoothly and we are incredibly grateful for all of his hard work and enthusiasm.

We would also like to say a massive thank you to all of the volunteers and helpers who stepped in with an β€œall hands on deck” approach throughout the day. The help with setting up, clearing away and, of course, manning the hugely popular slip and slide is very much appreciated. Your support helped make the afternoon so enjoyable for everyone.

Thank you too to all of the families and friends who came along to support the children. The cheering from the sidelines, words of encouragement and fantastic atmosphere made the day even more special for our pupils.

We are absolutely delighted to share that the PTA raised an incredible Β£1259.93 from the event, an amazing total! Thank you so much to everyone who supported the day and contributed so generously.

Well done once again to all of our pupils for such a memorable afternoon. You were all superstars!

Photos will be uploaded to our Instagram account this weekend!

Thank you for all of your support this half term. We hope you have a wonderful half-term holiday in the sunshine. Remember to stay safe in the sun and we will see you back in school on Tuesday 2nd June.

Headteacher Recruitment

The Governing Body has now concluded the recruitment process for the position of Headteacher.

Following this process, Mrs Catherine Jenkins has been appointed as the new Headteacher at Llangan Primary School. Mrs Jenkins is an experienced senior leader, the Deputy Headteacher at St Bride's CiW Primary School and will join the school as Headteacher from 1st September 2026.

As we move towards the next stage for our school, the priority will be to ensure a smooth and supportive transition for the children, staff and wider community. I will continue to work closely with governors and with Mrs Jenkins over the coming weeks to support this process.

I know that this period of transition has been an important one for our school community and I would like to thank parents and carers for the kindness, encouragement and support you have shown to both staff and children throughout this time. It has been a privilege to lead the school as Acting Headteacher and I remain committed and excited for the term ahead! I am incredibly proud of all that our pupils and staff continue to achieve together each day.

Attached is a letter from Mrs Jenkins, who is looking forward to meeting the children, families and staff in due course.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our school.

A letter from Mrs Jenkins...

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am absolutely delighted to introduce myself as the new Headteacher of Llangan Primary School.

It is a privilege to become part of such a warm, caring and ambitious school community. Llangan is a special place where children are encouraged to thrive, develop confidence and enjoy their learning experiences.

I am passionate about creating exciting opportunities for all children and ensuring that every pupil feels happy, valued and inspired to achieve their very best. I strongly believe that positive relationships between school and home are central to a successful education, and I look forward to getting to know you all over the coming months.

As Headteacher, I am committed to building on the many strengths of the school while continuing to lead Llangan on new adventures and opportunities for learning. I firmly believe in encouraging children to embrace challenge, develop resilience and aim for excellence in all that they do. Together, we will continue to inspire our pupils to Dring yn Uchel, Dring yn Uwch β€” believing in themselves and recognising that there are no limits to what they can achieve.

I know that transitions can bring change and uncertainty, but I hope you will quickly see my enthusiasm, openness and commitment to the children and community of Llangan Primary School. I am incredibly excited about the future ahead and feel very fortunate to be joining the school.

Kind regards,

Catherine Jenkins
