It has been another incredibly positive and productive week in school, and I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our pupils during our first Assessment Week.

Across the school, the children have approached their assessments with maturity, resilience and determination. We are exceptionally proud of the effort they have shown and the positive attitudes they have demonstrated throughout the week. Our assessment period is an important opportunity for children to showcase the progress they have made in their learning, and it has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they tackled each challenge with such enthusiasm.

As always, we remind our pupils that assessments are only one part of their learning journey. What has impressed us most is the perseverance, focus and pride the children have shown in their work every single day. They should all feel extremely proud of themselves.

We would also like to congratulate our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils who represented the school at the Olympics event hosted by Y Bont Faen Primary School. The children were outstanding ambassadors for our school, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship both on and off the field. Their teamwork, encouragement of others and positive attitudes made us immensely proud. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for everyone involved and a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop confidence, resilience and teamwork through sport. Some of our Year 6 pupils attended as helpers, and their positive contributions were noted by staff from other schools! Da iawn bawb, we're very proud of you all.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Our assessment period continues next week. Please make every effort to ensure your child is in school to complete their assessments.

Working together, we can ensure that every child continues to thrive both academically and personally.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Becky Heavyside

Reminders...

Top Gate

To help us keep all children safe, once children have been dismissed through the top gate, they should remain with their parent or carer and should not return onto the school site to use the play equipment.

At the end of the day, staff are busy supervising children leaving the site safely, as well as supporting and supervising those children who are waiting for the bus. For this reason, we are unable to supervise children who return to the playground after dismissal.

We would be very grateful for your support with this, as it helps us to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils at the busiest part of the school day.

Sports Day - Thursday 21st May

The long-range weather forecast is looking good so far! We will let you know at the earliest opportunity if we need to cancel and move Sports Day to the reserve date (Thurs 4th June)

Just a few considerations:

  • pupils to come to school wearing house colours
  • all pupils need a refillable water bottle
  • pupils must come to school wearing suncream if weather is good
  • parents are invited to join us from 1pm, races will begin at 1:!5pm
  • we are in the process of confirming the use of the farmer's field for parking. Please watch this space we will confirm parking arrangements with you closer to the time
  • after school clubs will be cancelled on Thursday 21st May
  • all families are invited to stay for the family fun day from 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Attendance

We would like to thank all families for your continued support in promoting good attendance and punctuality at school. We know that mornings can sometimes be busy and challenging, and we truly appreciate the efforts families make to ensure children arrive at school ready to learn each day.

Regular attendance plays a hugely important role in children’s progress, confidence and wellbeing. Children who attend school consistently are more likely to feel settled in their routines, build strong friendships and make the very best progress in their learning. The Welsh Government continues to highlight the close link between good attendance and positive educational outcomes for children across Wales.

As a school, we are currently seeing attendance figures that are lower than they were at the same point last year, and we are keen to work together with families to improve this over the coming months. Every day in school really does make a difference, and even occasional absences can mean children miss valuable learning experiences and important moments with their classmates.

We would also like to remind parents and carers that holidays during term time are strongly discouraged and are recorded as unauthorised absences unless there are exceptional circumstances. We understand that family time is important, but taking holidays during school time can have a significant impact on children’s learning and routines.

It is also important for families to be aware that when a child’s attendance falls below 90%, the Local Authority classifies this as persistent absence and attendance will be monitored for improvement. Our priority is always to work positively and supportively with families to help children attend school regularly and feel successful in school.

If there are any circumstances affecting your child’s attendance, please do get in touch with us. We are always here to listen and to support families wherever we can.
