They then headed into our arboretum to make dens, explore the area and discover molehills, bird boxes and our beautiful Royal Oak trees. What a brilliant way to learn through teamwork, curiosity and adventure in the great outdoors. 🌳✨

We picked, planted, tasted, bug hunted, and prepped — our outdoor learning space gives us so much! 🥰🌱🐞

We also pepped herbs and dug vegetables ready for the Farmer's Market

Our young naturalists had a special opportunity to observe a nesting bird up close, guided by visiting wildlife experts who helped us understand more about the habits and habitats of our feathered friends.

Meanwhile, our veggie patch has been a hive of productivity! The children rolled up their sleeves to sow new seeds, plant summer crops, and harvest the fruits (and veg!) of their earlier hard work. We were thrilled to pick our first broad beans, crunchy radishes, and even some juicy strawberries 🍓—a real taste of summer.

It’s been a week of learning, growing, and connecting with nature—Llangan style!

This week, Dosbarth Mochyn Daear have been putting their Forest School skills into action as they created their very own wood cookies.

Using tools safely and confidently, the children practised whittling techniques and worked with natural materials to produce a set of unique, hand-crafted wooden discs. These "wood cookies" will now become part of our classroom environment—used in a variety of ways to support learning across the curriculum.

Whether it’s for maths manipulatives, storytelling prompts, or nature-inspired art, these beautiful natural resources bring a bit of the forest indoors and reflect our belief in the power of outdoor learning to spark creativity, resilience, and independence.

This week, despite stormy weather, our pupils made the most of their outdoor learning adventures:

Year 1/2

• Dug up delicious leeks 🧅.
• Super-weeded the polytunnel beds to prepare for spring planting.
• Planted mini bulbs for a splash of colour.

Year 3

• Created paper seedling pots and veggie labels.
• Tried their hand at weaving with large darning needles 🧵—a fantastic way to build fine motor skills.

Year 5/6

• Planted sweet pea seeds 🌸 and herbs 🌿 using their own pupil-made paper pots.
• Explored seed packets to uncover what they teach us—perfect for self-directed learning!

Rain or shine, Llangan’s outdoor learning keeps growing strong! 🌦️

At Llangan Primary School, our outdoor learning adventures have been in full swing this week, with every year group getting their hands dirty and working together to improve our wonderful outdoor spaces.

Our enthusiastic Year 1 and Year 2 pupils took on the task of tidying up the arboretum, ensuring it’s ready for more outdoor learning activities. They also began preparing our planting beds for this year’s crops and made creative vegetable seed signs to mark out where their hard work will flourish in the coming months.

Meanwhile, our industrious Years 3, 5, and 6 focused on winter garden maintenance, tidying and rejuvenating areas for the season ahead. They also got to work on an exciting new project, installing posts to develop an area that will soon become a vibrant addition to our outdoor learning environment. We captured some fantastic before-and-after shots to highlight their progress!

These activities are a perfect example of how outdoor learning connects us with nature, teaches essential life skills, and fosters teamwork. A big thank you to all the pupils (and staff!) for their hard work in maintaining and enhancing our outdoor spaces.

Meanwhile, Year 5 and 6 were busy crafting. Some students put finishing touches on their wellbeing pebbles, while others created beautiful willow dreamcatchers, wind socks, and fabric wreaths. The creativity on display was absolutely amazing!

A fantastic day of outdoor learning and hands-on fun, demonstrating the resilience and creativity of our pupils. Big thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm, despite the cold! 🌿❄️🎨

Tuesday’s outdoor learning was a wet one, but the children embraced it with enthusiasm! They created some fantastic, magical woodland creatures from clay. 🌧️🦊🍂 

Year 3 had a wonderful day in #LlanganOutdoorLearning! They created autumn wreaths after collecting natural materials, enjoyed a mindfulness session in our beautiful woods with some mindful art, planted bulbs for spring, and even collected apples. 🍂🌱🍎#llanganoutdoorlearning
