Headteacher’s Blog
As we reach the end of another busy half-term, it has been wonderful to see the school come alive with preparations for our upcoming Eisteddfod. This has been a fantastic opportunity to teach our children about aspects of Welsh history and culture, while also developing their wider skills.
This week, our pupils have been exploring Welsh poetry using the book Sgram as inspiration. They have drafted their own poems in their literacy books before presenting their final pieces for the competition. In addition, they have developed their creative skills by producing artwork in the style of Welsh artists.
Young Performer Competition Auditions
On Friday, we held auditions for our Young Performer Competition, where pupils showcased their talents in singing, reciting, and instrumental performances. Our Criw Cymraeg had the tough job of selecting the winners, who will perform in the school’s Eisteddfod on Wednesday, 5th March.
The Eisteddfod is a key event in our school calendar, celebrating a proud Welsh tradition that dates back centuries. At Llangan, we warmly welcome members of our community to join us for this special event. It is important that we share not just our academic successes with parents and grandparents but also our cultural heritage. Every class has been rehearsing their performances, and we look forward to celebrating music, poetry, and creativity together.
Tickets are now available to purchase for the event.
A Musical Treat – Barry Male Voice Choir Visit
We had an incredible afternoon of music this week as we welcomed Barry Male Voice Choir to Llangan. Not only did we enjoy some fantastic choral performances, but we also learned about the history of male voice choirs in Wales and their impact on the wellbeing of working men across the country. Barry Male Voice Choir was established in 1902 and is still going strong today! 🎶
Parent Forum Updates
Our recent Parent Forum was a great opportunity to discuss key issues raised by families. A few important points from the meeting:
🚗 Car Park Safety – Many parents have shared concerns about the busyness and safety of our school car park. While we are lucky to have such a large space for a small school, we all have a role to play in keeping it safe. Please follow these four simple rules:
1️⃣ Drive at 5mph – Slow speeds keep everyone safe.
2️⃣ Reverse into spaces – This makes it safer when leaving.
3️⃣ Do not park in the lane – Keep the flow of traffic moving.
4️⃣ Use the footpath – Children and adults should walk along the path behind the chain fence.
We will be reminding children about these rules in school over the coming weeks. Let’s work together to keep everyone safe!
📅 School Events & Communication – Some parents raised concerns about having enough notice for school events. As a reminder:
- We plan our school calendar a year in advance and shared a school planner of events with parents in September and again in January.
- Parents can always access our school calendar via the School News App.
Plaza 3 – Exploring Our Local River
This week, Plaza 3 took part in a fantastic workshop run by Restore the Thaw, investigating our local river and learning about its environmental significance.
