Exciting News from Llangan Primary School!

We have some fantastic news to share with our wonderful community! On Wednesday, the selection panel of the governing body appointed Mrs. Heavyside as our new Deputy Headteacher. Currently serving as the acting deputy headteacher, Mrs. Heavyside has been short-listed in the school. Out of 16 applicants, the governors narrowed it down to 3 candidates who underwent two days of interviews, including interviews by the children themselves! We are absolutely thrilled that Mrs. Heavyside will be joining our school community on a permanent basis. She will continue the great work she has already begun in her role and leading literacy across the school. Mrs. Heavyside joins us from Rhws Primary School. Please join us in congratulating her on her well-deserved appointment!

In other joyful news, Mrs. Powling tied the knot last Friday and will now be known as Mrs. Jones. We extend our warmest congratulations to her and her husband on their special day, wishing them a lifetime of happiness together.

A huge thank you to all the families who supported our Book Fayre this week. Your participation not only gave children the opportunity to purchase fantastic Scholastic children’s books but also contributed funds to our school.

Spelling Bee Announcement

Mark your calendars! On Friday, 24th May, we will be hosting our inaugural Great Llangan Spelling Bee!

The aim of our Spelling Bee is to celebrate the hard work our children are putting into their spellings. Each child will receive a list of challenging spelling words to practice at home, and we kindly ask for your support in helping them learn these words.

Throughout the week, class teachers will organise short spelling quizzes and activities to assist children in mastering their words. Then, on Friday, 24th May, each class will hold a competition to determine the top two spellers in each year group. The final showdown will take place in the afternoon, where the whole school will gather to witness the thrilling finale!

While each year group champion will receive a special award, we want to emphasise that every child's effort in learning their spelling words will be acknowledged and celebrated.

How can you help your child prepare?

  • Review the words together aloud.
  • Look for similar words or word families.
  • Break words into syllables.
  • Become a word detective—can you spot smaller words within longer ones?
  • Make learning fun!
  • Don’t spend too much time on spelling.
  • Encourage and praise your child’s efforts!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Sun Safety Reminder

As we head towards summer and anticipate warmer, sunnier days, please remember to keep your children sun-safe at school. Don't forget to send them with a sun hat, sunglasses if they wish, and apply sunscreen before school. Your child can also bring sunscreen to school.

A Friendly Reminder

Parents, please remember to write your child’s name on all their belongings, especially on school uniforms. It can be quite challenging to reunite lost items with their owners without proper labelling.

Thank you for your continued support!

Warm regards,
