A wonderful week of learning and experiences in Blwyddyn 6.
🌟 Shwmae 🌟
This week in Maths, Year 6 pupils have been developing their understanding of scale factors, solving ratio problems, and accurately using one-step function machines. They have shown confidence when explaining their reasoning and applying these skills to a range of problem-solving activities — gwaith bendigedig!
In Literacy, we continued our writing journey on encyclopaedia entries. Pupils explored a range of texts, analysing their tone and key features, and used a diamond ranking activity to evaluate examples from strong to weak. This helped them deepen their understanding of what makes an effective encyclopaedia entry.
Our Inquiry learning focused on Leonardo da Vinci and his exploration of flight. Pupils carried out further independent research on pioneers of flight and presented their findings creatively in their inquiry books. This week, we also launched our aeronautical workshop on Thursday with Picture Train, which the pupils thoroughly enjoyed and engaged with enthusiastically — roedd yn brofiad cyffrous iawn! We will take part in these workshops every Thursday afternoon for the next 6 weeks.
In Welsh we talked about where we are going on holiday. Answering the questions Ble rwyt ti'n mynd? Wyt ti'n mynd i...? and Pwy sy'n mynd i...?
This week has also been assessment week, with pupils completing their maths, spelling and reading tests. They approached these calmly and maturely, showing excellent effort and resilience — da iawn pawb.
Year 6 pupils have also taken on an important responsibility by caring for the school guinea pigs. They worked together to devise a fair rota, sharing out the feeding and caring duties thoughtfully and responsibly — yn gweithio’n wych fel tîm.
In addition, we took part in some exciting filming for the BBC alongside Year 4 and Year 5 pupils, linked to the game of Traitors that has been played in school. Cadwch lygad allan amdonom ni ar y teledu! 📺
