Year 6 Blog we 3.10.25

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Dosbarth Llwynog!

Maths:
In maths, we explored prime numbers up to 100 and practised applying the rules of divisibility. The children enjoyed spotting patterns and testing their skills with different numbers, working both independently and in pairs to challenge each other.

Literacy:
Our literacy focus was on writing, performing, and recording WW2 evacuee monologues. The children brought our stories to life with sound effects, gestures, and emotion. It was wonderful to see them engaging so deeply with the experiences of evacuees.

Inquiry:
The week started with a fantastic Jump In Day! We stepped into the shoes of WW2 evacuees, bringing in bags with our “precious belongings,” sharing them with our classmates, and reading letters from our parents. This experience gave us a real sense of what life was like for children evacuated in Wales during the war. Following this, we wrote letters back to our parents in the role of evacuees. These letters were very powerful and emotional, helping us connect personally with history.

Health and Wellbeing:
This week in Health and Wellbeing, we worked collaboratively to resolve conflicts. Through role play and group discussions, the children explored strategies and tools to handle disagreements with friends and peers effectively.

Outdoor Learning:
On Thursday afternoon, we had a brilliant apple pressing session! We picked apples from our school garden and went through the process of pressing them to make our very own fresh apple juice. The children were thrilled to taste and take home their fruity creations.

It has been a week full of creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning, and we can’t wait to see what next week brings!

On 17th October we will be taking part in a Show Racism the Red card event. Please send children to school wearing red on this day.
