wc 8.9.25 Year 6 Weekly Learning Blog

This week in Year 6 we have been busy exploring lots of new ideas across the curriculum.
Maths
In our Maths lessons, we focused on place value. We practised comparing, ordering and rounding integers, building our confidence with larger numbers and learning how to explain our thinking clearly.
Literacy
In Literacy, we turned our attention to diary writing. We studied examples from famous diarists, identifying the key features that make a diary personal and powerful. We then used these ideas to write thoughtful questions to St Canna, linking them with our Inquiry work. Alongside this, we worked on expanding our vocabulary and using it carefully to build accurate, well-structured sentences.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry lessons took us outside the classroom and into our local area. We explored how weathering and erosion can affect monuments over time and researched more about St Canna. Looking closely at images of monuments nearby, we thought analytically about their condition and what this can tell us about history, geography and the natural world.
Looking ahead to next week…
-
In Maths, we will be adding and subtracting integers, exploring common factors and multiples, learning prime numbers up to 100, and investigating square and cube numbers.
-
In Literacy, we will continue our diary writing learning journey, developing our own diary entries using everything we have learned so far.
-
In Inquiry, we will continue with our mini-topic ‘Cenefin’ and consider the big question: How can a stone cross from the past help us understand our village today?
It’s been a fantastic week of learning and discovery in Year 6; full of curiosity, creativity and critical thinking!
