Dosbarth Llwynog Class Blog – Week in Review

Hello, parents and friends! Here's what we've been up to in Dosbarth Llwynog this week.

Maths

This week in Maths, we've been working on some exciting and challenging concepts! We’ve been exploring multiplication and division with fractions – learning how to multiply and divide fractions by whole numbers and by other fractions. We have also been busy with converting units of measure, like changing from meters to kilometres or grams to kilograms, which helps us understand how measurements are used in the real world.

Literacy

In Literacy, we’ve been conducting independent research on two inspiring individuals: Greta Thunberg and David Attenborough. We've learnt so much about these environmental champions, and each of us has chosen one of them to write a biography. We’ve been planning our writing, gathering important facts, and developing our skills to create well-structured biographies that showcase these remarkable figures and their contributions to the world.

Inquiry: Sow, Grow and Farm

Our new inquiry topicSow, Grow and Farm, has kicked off with great enthusiasm! We’ve started thinking about the big question: How are farms changing? To help us answer this question, we visited Penllyn Estate Farm as part of our Jump In Day! During the visit, we had a fantastic time exploring the farm. We toured the crops, learnt about the animals, and saw the machinery and tools used on a working farm. It was a real eye-opener to see how a farm operates, and it has inspired us to think about how farms can be run as businesses and how they generate income.

Welsh

In Welsh, we’ve been having some fun discussions about the weather and the types of clothes to wear in different weather conditions. We’ve been practising our vocabulary and sentence structures, and we now know how to talk about the weather in Welsh – perfect for when we’re talking to family and friends in the future!

Looking Ahead

We are all really excited about our Sow, Grow and Farm inquiry. We can’t wait to learn more about farming, how farms can make money, and what it takes to run a successful farm business. We’re looking forward to more hands-on learning, including planting seeds and starting our own enterprising farm projects.

Thank you for reading, and we can’t wait to share more of our learning with you next week!
