🦊 Llwynog Blog 8.5.26

This week in Dosbarth Llwynog, we have continued to work incredibly hard across all areas of the curriculum and have enjoyed lots of exciting learning opportunities!
In Maths, we have been exploring circles. We learnt how to identify and calculate the radius and diameter, before moving on to reasoning challenges involving concentric circles. We used our mathematical thinking skills to explain our methods and justify our answers using mathematical vocabulary.
In Literacy, we began a brand-new writing journey focused on instructional writing. This week, we introduced the genre and next week we will continue by analysing a model text and identifying the key features of effective instructions. During our grammar lessons, we have been developing our sentence structure skills by constructing sentences using coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions, relative clauses and imperative verbs.
Our inquiry work has taken us on an inspiring journey celebrating the work of Sir David Attenborough. Through Literacy Across the Curriculum, we have been writing persuasive speeches linked to environmental issues and considering how we can encourage others to care for our planet. We also developed our digital skills by recording podcasts using Adobe, sharing our opinions and ideas on a variety of environmental topics.
As part of our inquiry into the environment, we researched threatened species living in Bannau Brycheiniog. Pupils independently researched a chosen species before collaborating in groups to create presentations to share their findings and propose possible solutions to help protect wildlife in the future.
A highlight of our week was taking part in our Llangan Mini Marathon for Valindre Hospital. As a school, we raised a phenomenal amount of money for this charity that is close to so many of our hearts. Year 6 ran, skipped, jogged, danced and walked like their lives depended on it! We couldn't be prouder of their determination, effort and motivation.
Da iawn, Dosbarth Llwynog! 🌟
