🦊 Dosbarth Llwynog – Weekly Blog
It has been another busy and productive week in Year 6!
In Literacy, we have concluded our writing journey, focusing on creating our own newspaper articles. The children have worked hard to include key features such as headlines, quotes and paragraphs, while also applying the grammar skills we have been developing. This week, we focused on using complex and compound sentences, fronted adverbials, and expanded noun phrases, as well as writing in a clear formal tone. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they begin to write more purposefully and with a clear audience in mind.
In Maths, we have continued our work on angles and shape. This week, we moved on to a fun and practical lesson where the children explored nets and created a variety of 3D shapes. They thoroughly enjoyed constructing their models and developing their understanding of how 2D shapes form 3D objects.
We also applied our numeracy skills across the curriculum by creating dual bar charts based on data linked to visitor numbers and littering in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. The children demonstrated great skill in interpreting and presenting data, making meaningful links to our inquiry work.
In our inquiry lessons, we applied our literacy skills by conducting independent research on Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and writing our own non-chronological reports. The pupils showed excellent independence and used a range of features to present their findings clearly.
In Welsh, we continued developing our oracy skills by discussing our hobbies. The children extended their sentences by giving their opinions, showing great progress in their confidence when speaking Welsh.
In Health and Wellbeing, we continued our learning about puberty and hygiene, as well as understanding how emotions can change. The children approached these important topics maturely and respectfully. PE this week was athletics on the field. Pupils enjoyed taking part in a variety of races and games in preparation for sports day.
We are incredibly proud of all the hard work this week—da iawn Dosbarth Llwynog! 🌟
