🦊 Dosbarth Llwynog Blog 24.4.26

It has been another busy and exciting week in Dosbarth Llwynog!

In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of angles, focusing on isosceles and equilateral triangles. We worked hard to calculate missing angles and, most importantly, explain our reasoning clearly using mathematical language. We then applied these skills in our Numeracy Across the Curriculum lesson, where we designed our own visitor centres for National Parks. We calculated angles within our structures to ensure accuracy. The final designs were incredibly creative and purposeful, we were very impressed!

In Literacy, we continued our new writing journey by completing our cold task newspaper articles. We have also been focusing on grammar, particularly exploring how to create positive and negative bias in our writing. The children are beginning to understand how language choices can influence the reader, a key skill for effective journalism.

This week also marked the start of our new inquiry topic on National Parks. We began by plotting all the UK’s National Parks onto a map and discussing the different types of landscapes they include, as well as where they are located. This has helped us to build a strong foundation for our inquiry work.

A highlight of the week was when Group 2 visited our school bees with Jonathan, our beekeeper. They had the amazing opportunity to open the hive, observe the bees up close and even extract some honey — a fantastic real-life learning experience!

In Welsh, we have been developing our oracy skills through role play. We practised asking and answering the question:
“Beth wyt ti’n eisiau gwneud?”
The children showed great confidence speaking Welsh with their partners.

We are looking forward to continuing our learning next week!
