Llwynog Blog 6.3.26

World Book Day fun, visitors from Aeras Aviation and excitement about our residential trip.

This week in Llwynog, we began an exciting new writing journey focusing on narrative writing. We explored a range of texts and identified the key features of a narrative, discussing how authors create interesting characters, settings and plots to engage the reader. We are looking forward to developing our own imaginative stories over the coming weeks.

In Maths, we have been learning about volume. We began by finding the volume of cuboids by counting cubes, before moving on to using the formula length × width × height to calculate the volume more efficiently. We also challenged ourselves with a range of problem-solving and reasoning tasks, explaining our thinking and working together to tackle tricky questions.

Thursday was particularly exciting as we celebrated World Book Day. We enjoyed a fantastic assembly led by Mrs Antoniou and Mr Howles, which reminded us about the joy of reading. We also took part in a live storytelling and quiz session online with Giglets. To make the day even more special, we enjoyed scrumptious hot chocolate kindly provided by our wonderful PTA.

We were also very lucky to welcome Aled and Mark from Aeras Aviation, who spoke to us about their careers in the aviation industry. They taught us about the different parts of an aeroplane and how aircraft are designed to fly, as well as the history of flight. It was fascinating to hear about real careers in aviation and the children asked lots of enquiring questions.

Finally, we are all extremely excited about our residential trip to Llangrannog next week, which will be full of fun, teamwork and exciting outdoor activities. We cannot wait to challenge ourselves, try new experiences and make wonderful memories together.

Reminder: There will be no spelling test next Friday due to the residential trip.
