Internet Safety and Children's Mental Health Week!

In Maths, we have been learning how to find the area of rectangles and triangles. We focused on understanding what perpendicular height means in triangles and how this is essential for calculating the area accurately. Pupils have been explaining their methods clearly and applying their learning confidently to a range of problems.

In Literacy, we planned and wrote our hot task: a balanced argument on the question “Should humans continue to fly? ”The class worked hard to use discourse markers and formal language, while ensuring their arguments were non-biased and supported with strong reasons and evidence. The quality of writing and thoughtful viewpoints shared have been really impressive.

In Digital Learning, we were lucky to welcome visitors from Technocamps at Cardiff University on Thursday. Pupils coded micro:bits to play games and make vehicles move, developing their computational thinking and problem-solving skills. We had a fantastic morning of learning and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

This week was also Internet Safety Week. Mr Howles led an excellent assembly on how to stay safe online and shared lots of helpful ideas for using digital tools responsibly, including creating animations safely. This linked perfectly with our ongoing digital work in class.

In Welsh, pupils completed their Welsh language comic strips and wrote short Welsh conversation scripts. These will be used as the basis for creating our own Welsh animations using Adobe, which we are all very excited about.

On Friday, our wonderful PTA organised a whole-school Sponsored Danceathon as part of Children’s Mental Health Week. We loved taking part! Pupils wore whatever made them happy and danced the day away – lots of smiles, energy and endorphins all round. 💃🕺
To mark this year’s theme, “This is my place”, we had thoughtful discussions about belonging and created our own special maps showing “our place” and what makes it special to us. The reflections were personal, meaningful and beautifully presented.

We hope you all have a lovely half-term and a well-earned rest.
