A Week of Learning and Exploration

We have had a fantastic and very busy week in our Year 2/3 class, full of learning, curiosity and excitement!

Maths

In Maths this week, we have been discovering 2D and 3D shapes. The children explored a range of shapes and learnt how to identify and describe their edges, faces and vertices. We enjoyed using real objects and models to help us understand the differences between flat (2D) and solid (3D) shapes, and the children showed great enthusiasm when spotting shapes in the world around them.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have continued our journey into non-chronological reports. The children have been learning what makes a piece of writing a report rather than a story. We focused on identifying key features such as:

  • A title
  • Subheadings
  • Facts and information
  • Pictures and captions

The children did a brilliant job spotting these features in example texts and explaining why they are important.

Space Topic – Techniquest Visit

As part of our exciting Space topic, we were very lucky to visit Techniquest this week. The children had the opportunity to explore a range of scientific exhibits, where they asked thoughtful questions and showed excellent curiosity.

One of the highlights of the visit was our session in the planetarium, where we learnt all about:

  • The planets in our solar system
  • Our Milky Way galaxy
  • Dwarf planets
  • Stars and constellations

The children were an absolute credit to the school, showing excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and respect throughout the trip. We are very proud of them!

Looking Ahead to Next Week

Next week promises to be just as exciting!

  • In Maths, we will begin learning about fractions of shapes and numbers, including finding and recognising halves and other simple fractions.
  • In Literacy, we will continue developing our non-chronological reports, building on our understanding of features and beginning to write our own.
  • In our Space topic, we will be learning about different space vehicles, such as rovers and buggies, and exploring how they are used to investigate space.

We are looking forward to another week full of learning, discovery and fun in Year 2/3! 🌍✨
