It’s been a week full of creativity, curiosity and collaboration – well done Year 2/3!

We’ve been diving into the world of symbols in maths, discovering what ‘<’, ‘>’ and ‘=’ mean and how we use them to compare number sentences. The children have really enjoyed using these symbols to solve puzzles and explain their thinking to each other. We’ve also started exploring estimating – learning how to make sensible guesses to help us add and subtract more efficiently. It’s been great to see the children using their number knowledge to estimate and check their answers.

In ICT, we’ve been refining our typing skills and learning how to use Microsoft Word to create our own documents. The children are becoming confident in formatting text, saving their work, and even adding titles and images!

One of the highlights of the week has been recounting our fabulous class trip. We’ve used voice overs, sequencing activities, and report writing to share our experiences. The children have worked hard to organise their ideas and present them clearly – and the results have been fantastic!

In history, we’ve been discovering how Roman numerals work and comparing them to our modern number system. We’ve also been exploring the differences between Roman and Celtic weapons, using thinking frames, leaflet-making, and IT tools to show what we’ve learned.

Next week, we are looking at counting in different numbered steps and counting money. We will progress onto looking at multiplication in its different formats of illustrations and as addition. In literacy we will begin our new writing journey of writing an adventure story, linking it to our Inquiry topic or the Celts and Romans.

In our Inquiry topic next week, we will be discovering why, and how, the Romans invaded Britain. Leading us onto discovering the life of a Roman legionnaire and the different style of their shields.
