WB 9.6 - 🛒 From Labels to Laps – A Week of Real-Life Learning! 🏃♀️🥝📦

It’s been another busy and brilliant week in class as our inquiry “Where does our food come from?” continues to grow richer and more meaningful. The children have really started to think like informed shoppers and smart writers — asking great questions and making fantastic connections.
In literacy, we’ve been writing our first drafts of instruction texts – with a delicious focus on making smoothies! The children have been using time words, bossy verbs and conjunctions like and and because to explain each step clearly. They’ve really started to understand how writing can help others follow a process.
Meanwhile, in maths, we’ve continued exploring time. This week, we’ve been learning to tell the time to the hour, half past, and even quarter past and quarter to. It’s been brilliant to see children applying this to real-life routines — like when we do jobs on the farm, or how long it takes to make a smoothie!
One of our favourite new learning areas has been food packaging. The children have been investigating what labels actually mean. We’ve talked about “Use By” and “Best Before” dates, food miles, logos like Red Tractor and Fairtrade, and why packaging matters. It’s made us all think a little more about the journey our food takes and how to make good choices.
Outside the classroom, we’ve been practising for Sports Day, which is scheduled for tomorrow (weather permitting!). There’s a real buzz of excitement as we’ve been fine-tuning our races, team events and sports skills. We can’t wait to show you how much effort and teamwork the children have put in.
Once again, thank you for your ongoing support — it really helps bring our learning to life. We’re looking forward to even more hands-on, minds-on learning next week!
