WB 2/9 - 🌟 Smoothie Instructions, Cluster Olympics & Telling the Time! 🕒🍓

What a lively and rewarding week we’ve had in class as our “Where does our food come from?” inquiry continues to serve up fantastic learning across the board!

In literacy, the children have begun writing their first drafts of smoothie instructions — using their knowledge of bossy verbs, time words like first and next, and even a sprinkle of conjunctions to build clear, detailed steps. We’ve been so impressed with how confidently they’ve taken on the challenge of writing for an audience. Some of the vocabulary (and smoothie ideas!) have been deliciously creative.

Over in maths, we’ve continued exploring time, moving on from days and months to looking closely at clocks — telling the time to the hour, half past, and even beginning to tackle quarter past and quarter to. Through games, discussion, and real-life examples from the farm and our daily routines, the children are beginning to get to grips with the trickier vocabulary and positioning of hands on an analogue clock.

Of course, the highlight of the week was without doubt the Cluster Olympics on Tuesday! We joined with Year 1 to Year 3 children from across the cluster for a full day of sporting fun at Ysgol y Bont Faen. The children ran races, tackled assault courses, danced, built teamwork, explored maps and had an all-round brilliant time. It was a fantastic chance to practise physical skills, show great sportsmanship, and make new friends across schools.

In our continuous provision, the children have been building on their understanding of food journeys and farming — from designing smoothie recipe posters to constructing farm shops and exploring where different ingredients come from. The role-play shop continues to be a hub of real-life maths and language learning!

Thank you as always for your continued support at home — whether it's reading together, practising time, or just letting your child help in the kitchen, it’s all making a big difference.

Next week, we’ll be editing and improving our smoothie instructions, continuing to explore food miles and local produce — and there might even be a real smoothie making session on the horizon!
