04/4 - This Week in Year 1/2 – Making a Splash!

What a fantastic week we've had in Year 1/2! Our topic, How to Save the Oceans, has really inspired the children to think deeply about the world around them and how they can make a difference.
In Literacy, we've been learning how to write non-chronological reports. The children have been researching amazing ocean animals and are now starting to write their own fact files using headings, subheadings, and fun facts! We've also been working hard on using capital letters, full stops, and interesting vocabulary.
In Maths, we've been exploring grouping and sharing using sea creatures to help us visualise multiplication. The children loved using dolphins, starfish, and shells to help solve problems and spot patterns.
On Friday, we had a brilliant session with Beach Academy as a follow-up to our recent beach visit. The session focused on how we can protect starfish and other beach wildlife. It was an excellent opportunity for the children to explore the beach habitat in more depth and learn about the many amazing features of coastal creatures and how they survive. The hands-on activities and expert guidance really brought our learning to life!
Across our provision areas, the children have also been:
- Creating coral reef models in the construction area
- Writing persuasive posters about protecting the ocean
- Exploring the effects of pollution and plastic waste
- Sorting sea creatures in small world roleplay
- Using digital tools to design posters about marine life
We’ve also been very busy preparing for our Jump Out Day next Thursday. The children are full of excitement as they get ready to showcase what they’ve learned through fun activities, performances, and creative work. We can’t wait to welcome you and show you what we’ve been up to!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
