Another busy week in Year 2 and 3
In Literacy, we have continued our narrative writing journey and have been developing our skills as storytellers. The children have been exploring words that use apostrophes to show missing letters, such as didn't, can't and I'm. We have also been creating rainforest-themed similes to make our writing more imaginative and descriptive. The class came up with some fantastic ideas, helping to bring their rainforest stories to life with phrases such as "as colourful as a tropical parrot" and "as quiet as a jaguar creeping through the jungle."
In Mathematics, we have been learning about Venn diagrams and how they can be used to sort and classify information. We began by sorting shapes and numbers using different criteria before challenging ourselves further by classifying rainforest animals. The children showed excellent reasoning skills as they explained why different animals belonged in particular groups.
During PE, we continued to develop our tennis skills by focusing on our ball and racquet control. The children practised balancing the ball on their racquets, tapping the ball repeatedly into the air and maintaining control while moving around the space. We also worked on sending and receiving skills, learning how to gently strike the ball towards a partner with increasing accuracy. The class demonstrated excellent perseverance as they tackled new challenges, encouraging one another and celebrating each other's successes. It was wonderful to see their confidence and coordination grow throughout the session as they developed the key skills needed for tennis.
