Da iawn, Year 2/3, for another fantastic week of learning!

On Tuesday, we had an amazing day taking part in the school Mini-Marathon. The children showed fantastic enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the event, and fun was had by all! We would also like to say a huge thank you for your kind support in helping us raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre. We are so proud of the children for taking part so positively.

In Maths, we have continued learning about weight and measurement. The children have been developing their understanding of kilograms (kg) and grams (g) by converting between the two units and comparing different weights. They have also been practising reading scales with different intervals, including scales that count in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. The children used a variety of practical equipment to estimate and measure objects around the classroom before checking their answers carefully. We also discussed which unit of measurement would be most suitable for different objects and solved word problems involving weight. The children showed excellent perseverance when reading tricky scales and explaining their mathematical thinking.

In Literacy, we have been exploring conjunctions and persuasive opinions linked to saving the rainforest. The children have been thinking carefully about how to encourage others to protect our planet. We have also been creating catchy slogans that could attract people’s attention on rainforest posters. There were some very creative ideas!

In Science, we have been investigating litter and how it affects our environment. The children carried out a litter pick around the school grounds to discover what types of rubbish had been dropped. They then sorted the litter into groups, collected data and created graphs to present their findings. The children enjoyed becoming real scientists and using their maths skills in a practical way.

Reminder: Year 3 you have cluster Olympics on Monday. You have been told what colour t-shirt/top to wear. Don't forget your packed lunch and water bottle.
