Eisteddfod Preparations

What a busy first week back after half term, we have had in Year 2/3! We have been working incredibly hard preparing our entries for the school Eisteddfod, and the classroom has been full of creativity, focus and excitement.

Poetry – ‘Ble wyt ti’n byw?’

The children have been busy writing beautiful poems titled ‘Ble wyt ti’n byw?’. They explored their ideas carefully and thought about how to make their poems interesting and imaginative. We were so impressed with the vocabulary choices and the effort put into presenting their work.

Alongside their poetry writing, the children have been practising their handwriting skills to make sure their final pieces show the very best of what they can do. The pride they have taken in the neat presentation has been wonderful to see!

Artwork Competition – Inspired by Our School Mural

For the art competition, we used our very own Jenny Lambert school mural as inspiration. The children carefully studied the mural, paying close attention to:

  • Proportions
  • Scale of features
  • Colours and tones used

They showed fantastic focus and maturity in their observations, thinking carefully about how to apply these artistic elements to their own work. The final pieces are truly something to be proud of – creative, thoughtful and full of effort.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all parents and carers for the time, effort and support you gave the children with their Eisteddfod home entries. Your encouragement and help make such a difference, and it is very much appreciated. Diolch yn fawr iawn!

This week we have also begun an exciting new literacy journey using the wonderful story The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffries.

The children will be:

  • Retelling the story in their own words
  • Using the book as inspiration for their own versions
  • Imagining and writing what might happen next

We are already seeing some fantastic ideas and imaginative thinking. We cannot wait to see how the stories develop over the coming weeks!
