Week Beginning 19th May 2025

A trip to Ty Tanglwyst  🐝🐄🚜

What a buzzing and brilliant week it’s been in Dosbarth Pili-Pala 🐝 To celebrate World Bee Day, we were thrilled to welcome some very special visitors to our school grounds – our very own honey bees! This sparked some lovely discussions about just how important bees are for our planet and led to us making our very own seed bombs to  plant in our gardens at home. These wildflowers will grow into beautiful patches for bees to enjoy and help pollinate.

In maths, we continued the bee theme with a buzzing subtraction activity. The children transported pollen (pom poms) to their hives (hoops), but some bees from another hive kept taking our pollen away! We then had to work out how many were left and write our own subtraction sums 🌼

In literacy, we’ve started exploring the features of posters. We looked at different examples and talked about how posters attract people’s attention with bold writing, bright colours, and important messages.

The highlight of our week had to be our trip to Ty Tanglwyst Farm on Thursday! As part of our inquiry, ‘Why Are Farms Important?’, we’ve been learning about where our food comes from and the vital role farmers play in our daily lives. At the farm, we had a guided tour around the dairy, where we discovered how milk travels from the Holstein cows all the way to our school! We learnt the milking process, explored the milking parlour, and even got to meet the cows who provide milk to our school. We also got to see some calves and talked about how farmers take care of their animals 🐄

Back in class, we’ve been keeping a close eye on our chicks, who are growing quickly and becoming much more confident! We have loved observing them each day, noticing changes in their size, feathers, and behaviour. It’s been a fantastic opportunity to see life cycles in action 🐣🐥
