From Farm to Classroom 🚜
This week, we have continued to make the most of our outdoor learning spaces. The children have been busy exploring and completing challenges in our Mud Kitchen, Wildlife Area, and Flower Shop, using natural resources creatively and applying their literacy and numeracy skills in each area. Our role-play area has transformed into our very own farm shop, complete with real fruit and vegetables. The children have loved taking on the roles of customers and shopkeepers by writing shopping lists, creating tally charts of the different farm produce available.
In our construction area, we have been building Forage Farm, drawing on all the exciting things we learnt during last week’s trip to Penllyn Estate. The children have built models of the different barns and machinery found on a working farm and even designed maps to show the route we took to get there.
In our literacy area, we have been creating leaflets about our trip to Forage. The children recalled and recorded key information about the animals, machinery, and the many different job roles we discovered on the farm.
This week we have also started our ‘Get Writing’ journey, where we are learning how to create effective posters to encourage people to buy local farm produce.
In maths, we have begun learning about subtraction, using vegetables from our farm shop to explore taking away, using authentic contexts to make learning more meaningful.
