Week Beginning 28th September 2026

WANTED:The Big Bad Wolf! π·πΊπ
We have had another busy week of learning in Dosbarth Pili-Pala, with The Three Little Pigs taking over our classroom! π·π
Our COOL challenges this week have all been inspired by the traditional tale. In our creative area, the children explored different materials and textures to create houses of straw, sticks and bricks, while in the construction area they became builders, designing and testing houses strong enough to withstand the Big Bad Wolf! The children thought carefully about how they could improve their structures and what made some houses stronger than others. In our playdough area, the children developed their fine motor skills by rolling, pinching, shaping and joining playdough to create their own little pigs. Some challenged themselves to create pigs of different sizes before measuring, ordering and comparing their creations. In maths provision, the children have also been exploring different ways of making The 3 Little Pig's houses using number bonds to 10 using Numicon, while our writing area saw the return of a familiar problem – the Big Bad Wolf is on the loose! The children created 'wanted' posters, using descriptive vocabulary and sentences to help everyone know exactly who to look out for.
In literacy, we have continued writing our own retellings of The Three Little Pigs. The childrn thought carefully about the main characters, important events and the order in which they happen to help us retell the story from beginning to end. We have been so impressed by the fantastic writing the children have produced and the effort they have put into their work!
Our maths learning this week has introduced us to 2D shapes. The children explored different shapes and their properties before using them to create their own pictures. They were encouraged to identify the shapes they had chosen and talk about features such as the number of sides and corners.
We have also continued working on our letter formation in lots of different ways. This week, we took our learning outside and used paintbrushes and water to practise writing our names, giving us another fun way to develop our pencil control and formation.
Finally, we would like to say a huge thank you for the continued and incredibly generous donations to our classroom through our wish list. We have been overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity, and we are beyond grateful for everything that has been donated to help make our learning environment even more special for the children. Thank you so much for your continued support π
We hope everyone has a lovely weekend π¦
