Week Beginning 27th April 2026

Sunshine, Sea Life and Southerndown Adventures 🦀🐚 🌊
It has been another very busy and exciting week in Dosbarth Pili-Pala as we continued delving deeper into our nature inquiry.
At the beginning of the week, we began preparing for our visit to Southerndown Beach by thinking carefully about what a beach environment might be like using our senses. The children reflected on their previous learning during our mini-beast hunt around the school grounds and compared this to what they thought they might experience at the beach. Using photographs of beaches and rock pools, the children discussed what they might see, hear, smell and feel, before recording their ideas through drawings, labels and writing. It was wonderful to hear the thoughtful comparisons the children made between the natural environments at school and the seaside.
On Wednesday, we enjoyed a fantastic trip to Southerndown Beach, where we explored nature both on the beach and within the rock pools. During our rock pool exploration with Heritage Coast, the children were amazed by what they discovered. We found crabs, limpets, sea anemones, lots of snails and even a few shanny fish! The children loved exploring the beach using all of their senses and showed such curiosity and excitement throughout the day.
It was an absolute pleasure to take the children on the trip - they were impeccably behaved and represented our school beautifully. We would also like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who kindly gave up their time to help support the visit.
We hope everyone has a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and that the sunshine sticks around for you to enjoy! 🦀🐚 🌊
