Week Beginning 9th March 2026

Designing, Creating and Problem Solving in Pili-Pala ๐งต๐ญ๐
It has been another very busy and creative week in Dosbarth Pili-Pala as the children have continued bringing their puppet ideas to life.
The first two days of the week were dedicated to Design and Technology, where the children began making the puppets they had designed last week. They carefully looked back at their plans and started the exciting process of creating their puppets. The children practised simple sewing techniques to join the felt pieces together, carefully cut out their shapes and added features such as eyes, mouths and patterns to give their puppets personality. It has been wonderful to see the children showing such patience, creativity and pride in their work as their characters slowly came to life. We are very excited to see all of their finished puppets ready for Jump Out Day!
Alongside this, the children have been busy preparing special gifts for Mother’s Day. They carefully decorated china plant pots using paint and creative designs. Miss Hughes’s Nan very kindly donated strawberry plants for us, and the children planted them in their pots. The children loved getting their hands a little messy with the soil while learning how to carefully plant and look after their strawberry plants. We hope these thoughtful gifts will continue to grow and bring lots of smiles.
In maths, we have been developing our reasoning skills using addition and subtraction within 20. The children worked together to solve calculations, identify mistakes and explain their thinking. They explored how to prove their answers using different methods such as drawing pictures, using number lines and discussing their ideas with partners. The children also enjoyed spotting when a calculation was incorrect and explaining what mistake may have been made before correcting it. It has been fantastic to see the children growing in confidence when explaining their mathematical thinking and working collaboratively to solve problems.
We are incredibly proud of the creativity, perseverance and teamwork the children have shown this week, and we cannot wait to see their puppet creations take centre stage very soon!
