Daffodils, Dragons and Determined Learners 🌼🏴
It has been wonderful to welcome the children back after half term. We have jumped straight back into learning and have been incredibly busy preparing for St David’s Day and our Eisteddfod next week.
The children have worked so hard on their competition entries, both at home and in school. In art, we carefully studied the anatomy of daffodils, looking closely at their structure, shape and delicate details before creating our own beautiful mixed media daffodil artwork. The finished pieces are vibrant and full of texture.
For their writing entries, Reception children designed their own Welsh posters to showcase what makes Wales special. They thought carefully about landmarks, traditions, symbols and persuasive language to encourage others to celebrate and visit Wales. Year One children created their own acrostic poems about Wales, using each letter to express something meaningful - from landscapes and language to culture and pride. The children showed real focus and determination in completing their entries, and we are so proud of their effort.
We have also been busy practising for our performance next week, rehearsing our song ‘Oes Gafr Eto?’ The children have been singing with enthusiasm and growing confidence, and we can certainly tell that many have been practising at home! We are really looking forward to performing for our friends and families.
Our COOL challenges this week have centred around all things Welsh. In construction, the children studied images of Welsh castles before designing and building their own, carefully including features such as drawbridges, moats and arrow slits. They drew and labelled plans of their designs and even measured the height and length of their structures, recording their findings. In literacy, we continued creating persuasive Welsh posters to showcase what Wales has to offer.
In our fine motor areas, the children crafted intricate Welsh love spoons using playdough and practised writing their red words in the “snowy peaks of Snowdonia” - also known as shaving foam! In maths, we built upon our subtraction skills in a very practical way. Keeping with our Welsh theme, the children acted out taking away real leeks as if preparing ingredients for a pot of cawl, physically removing and counting what was left to reinforce the concept of taking away.
We would also like to give a special mention to the incredible homework projects - the children’s shadow puppet theatres have truly blown us away. The time, creativity and effort that has gone into them has been amazing to see. It has been such a joy watching the children proudly share and talk about their creations with their friends. Da iawn, Pili-Pala ❤️🦋
Finally, our mud kitchen resources are running low and we would love your help to restock our outdoor learning areas.
If you have any of the following natural items at home, we would be grateful for donations:
Natural Materials - pinecones, conkers, acorns, large shells, stones, pebbles, slate pieces, sticks, bark pieces, feathers
Garden items - dried flowers, fresh flowers, lavender, herbs, seed heads and leaves.
Donations can be brought into school next week. Thank you for support our outdoor learning.
