Stories, Seeds and Special Celebrations β€οΈ π΄σ §σ ’σ ·σ ¬σ ³σ Ώπ±
This week in Pili-Pala, we have continued building on our learning with lots of hands-on and exciting activities across the curriculum.
In literacy, we brought together everything we have learned about instruction writing to create a complete set of instructions on how to plant a seed. The children worked hard to include clear titles, lists of materials, bossy verbs and time/sequence words to guide the reader through each step. They also added pictures to support their writing, showing a great understanding of how instructions are organised and used.
In maths, we have been focusing on teen numbers, exploring how they are made up of one ten and some ones. The children built numbers using practical resources such as cubes, Numicon and place value equipment before writing and recognising the numbers in different ways. Alongside this, we have continued practising number formation, using a variety of fun and sensory methods including shaving foam, flour, rice, playdough, whiteboards and paper.
On Wednesday, we had a very special day celebrating St Dwynwen’s Day as a school. The children had the choice to wear something red or pink and enjoyed taking part in activities organised by the Criw Cymraeg and PTA. The children loved joining in with a traditional Welsh Twmpath dance, taking part in a fun Clocsio workout with Tudur from S4C, and decorating beautiful Welsh love spoons using a range of creative materials.
Our enhanced provision this week has been inspired by 'The Three Little Pigs'. In our literacy challenge, the children created ‘Wanted’ posters for the Big Bad Wolf, adding descriptive words and persuasive sentences to explain why he was being searched for. In construction, they built different houses for the pigs and compared which were stronger and why. In the creative area, the children explored texture and layering materials to design the pigs’ houses, thinking carefully about how to show straw, sticks and bricks.
We also had lots of fun getting our hands dirty planting herb seeds, which we are excited to watch grow and use in our mud kitchen to create all sorts of recipes.
We wanted to say a massive thank you again for all of your kind donations from our Amazon wish list. The resources are hugely appreciated in our classroom provision areas and the children absolutely love them – thank you! πβ€οΈ
