Time Travellers Take Off in Dosbarth Gwenynen!
What a fantastic and exciting week we have had in Dosbarth Gwenynen as we kicked off our new topic with an immersive Jump In Day!
We started the week with a very mysterious trunk that had been delivered to our classroom. Inside was a special letter from Professor Time Traveller, asking us to become history detectives and investigate the strange and wonderful objects he had sent us!
We carefully explored the old objects in the trunk, talking about what we thought they were, what they might have been used for and whether we still use anything similar today. The children were fantastic at sharing their ideas and asking questions.
We then began exploring one of our favourite things — toys! We talked about our favourite toys and looked at how toys today are different from the toys children played with many years ago.
We compared old and new toys and thought about the materials they were made from, how they moved and whether they needed batteries or electricity. The children enjoyed sharing their own experiences and making comparisons between toys from the past and toys we play with today.
Our classroom has been busy with lots of cool challenges linked to our new topic. We have been exploring old and new objects, sorting and comparing, talking about changes over time and developing our questioning and observation skills.
During our Welly Wednesday session, we became history detectives outdoors! We explored our school environment looking carefully for things that were old and new. We talked about how places and objects can change over time and shared our ideas about what might have been there in the past.
We have also been developing our movement and coordination skills in PE. This week we explored beanbags and hoops, practising throwing, catching, balancing, moving and working together.
It has been a wonderful start to our new topic, and we are already excited to discover what life was really like years ago!
Have a lovely weekend!
