Passion Projects!
What a fantastic week we have had in Year 5!
In Maths, we have continued our learning on fractions. We moved on from finding equivalent fractions to finding fractions of numbers, applying our knowledge to a range of different problem-solving situations. The children have shown great perseverance and growing confidence, particularly when explaining their thinking using mathematical vocabulary.
In Literacy, we completed our first writing journey of 2026. We wrote a set of instructions for younger children explaining how to build a suspension bridge. During this unit, we applied our knowledge of imperative verbs, adverbs, time connectives, and subordinating clauses. The children worked hard to make their writing clear, detailed, and easy to follow.
In our Inquiry lessons, we have started our Passion Projects, linked to our inquiry question: “Why are electric vehicles shaping our future?” The children generated three questions based on something they were curious to find out about. Some of these questions included: What is inside a car battery? and What is oil used for in a car? We are looking forward to exploring these questions further over the coming weeks.
In Science, we have been focusing on air resistance, exploring both the positive and negative impacts it can have. The children enjoyed discussing real-life examples and developing their understanding of how air resistance affects movement.
During Outdoor Learning and Forest School, the children developed their knot-tying skills and worked collaboratively to build a range of playground games. Using ropes and natural materials, they created a swing, seesaw, and slide, demonstrating excellent teamwork, problem-solving skills, and creativity.
