What a fantastic week!
This week in Year 5, we have started our exciting new inquiry:
“Why are electric vehicles shaping our future?”
We launched the inquiry with our Jump In Day at the beginning of the week, where we immersed ourselves in learning about different types of cars and the history of cars. The children took part in a wide range of engaging activities, including:
-
Creating Top Trumps–style car cards
-
Writing imaginative stories about electric cars in medieval times
-
Using our geography skills to discover where different cars are manufactured around the world
-
Applying our art skills to sketch a car of our choice
-
Writing letters to parents and carers sharing what we learnt about the history of cars
We cannot wait to continue our learning throughout this exciting inquiry!
In science this week, we continued our learning about forces and took part in a mini-investigation on magnetism. The children explored how magnets work and made careful observations during their investigation.
In literacy, we continued our journey with instructional writing, linked to building bridges. We are nearly ready to write our final piece, and the children have worked hard to develop clear steps and precise language.
In maths, we have been learning about fractions, focusing on finding equivalent fractions using multiplication and division. The children showed great perseverance and growing confidence with this tricky concept.
We also enjoyed spending time at Forest School this week, where the children worked collaboratively to build dens using natural materials. This was a great opportunity to develop teamwork, problem-solving skills and creativity, while connecting with the outdoor environment. Everyone showed fantastic cooperation and resilience, and the dens were very impressive!
Another fantastic week of learning in Year 5 — well done everyone!
