Terrifying Tornadoes
What an exciting start we have had to our final half term in Year 5! The children have returned with fantastic enthusiasm and have already been involved in a range of exciting activities and learning opportunities.
We kicked off the week with a creative Art Day, where the children designed and built impressive tornado scenes inside shoe boxes. Using a variety of materials including paint, cotton wool, natural resources, card, paper, and other craft materials, the children carefully created realistic storm landscapes. They explored how tornadoes form and used their artistic skills to represent swirling winds, dramatic skies, and the effects of extreme weather. The finished models were incredibly imaginative and showcased both creativity and attention to detail.
This week also saw the start of preparations for our summer production of High School Musical. The children took part in auditions for a variety of acting, singing, and speaking roles. We were incredibly impressed by the confidence, courage, and enthusiasm shown by everyone who auditioned. It was wonderful to see so many children stepping out of their comfort zones and supporting one another throughout the process. We are already looking forward to beginning rehearsals and bringing this exciting production to life.
In class, we have launched a new research project all about the FIFA World Cup. The children have begun investigating the history of the tournament, famous players, memorable matches, and the countries that have hosted and won the competition over the years. They have been developing their research skills by gathering information from a range of sources and presenting their findings in creative and informative ways. We are excited to see how their projects develop over the coming weeks.
To finish off a fantastic week, we travelled to the NIAC in Cardiff to take part in the Cluster Olympics. The children represented the school brilliantly, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, teamwork, determination, and resilience throughout the day. They participated in a variety of athletic events, challenging themselves to achieve their personal best while encouraging their teammates. It was wonderful to see everyone giving their all and celebrating each other's successes. We are incredibly proud of the positive attitude and effort shown by all the children.
What a brilliant start to our final half term! We are looking forward to the many exciting opportunities, challenges, and celebrations that lie ahead as we make the most of our remaining time in Year 5.
