Happy 100th Birthday Sir David Attenborough!
This week, we have had a fantastic and very busy week full of exciting learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum! The children have shown great enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork throughout each activity, and we are incredibly proud of all their hard work.
In our inquiry work, we have continued our learning about extreme weather. We explored a range of different weather events and focused particularly on extreme weather that has affected Wales in the past. The children were fascinated to learn about powerful storms, heavy snowfall, and flooding that have impacted local communities. We also widened our understanding by looking at major flooding events from around the world and discussing how these natural disasters can affect people, homes, and the environment. The class took part in thoughtful discussions and asked some excellent questions about climate and safety during extreme weather conditions.
In maths, we have continued developing our understanding of money and have been solving a range of real-life problems involving addition, subtraction, and budgeting. The children worked hard to calculate totals, find change, and compare different amounts of money. They showed fantastic resilience when tackling tricky word problems and became much more confident using money in practical situations.
As part of our literacy work, we have continued learning about biographies. This week, we focused on the life and achievements of the legendary broadcaster and natural historian Sir David Attenborough as we celebrated his 100th birthday. The children learned about his incredible career, his passion for wildlife and conservation, and the impact he has had on helping people understand and protect our planet. Using their research, the children wrote their own biographies about Sir David Attenborough and worked hard to include key features such as chronological order, important facts, and interesting vocabulary. We were very impressed with their writing and presentation skills!
During Health and Wellbeing, the children became healthy meal planners! They were given a budget and challenged to create their own healthy meal while comparing and contrasting the prices of different ingredients. The children carefully considered which foods would make balanced meals and discussed how to make healthy choices while staying within a budget. This activity encouraged excellent teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, while also helping the children understand the importance of healthy eating and managing money responsibly.
Overall, it has been another wonderful week filled with engaging learning opportunities, thoughtful discussions, and fantastic effort from everyone. Da iawn, everyone — keep up the amazing work!
