🕵️‍♂️ Year 6 Easter Homework: Mystery Story Challenge – Submit by: 15.4.26

🎯 Learning Objective: To plan and write your own mystery story using techniques we have practised in class.

📝 Tasks for Easter Break:

1. Plan Your Story (15–20 minutes) 📋🖊️ - Decide on your mystery: What has happened? Who is involved? - Create a story map or bullet points of key events. - Think about: - Setting (where does the mystery happen?) - Characters (detective, suspects, witnesses) - Problem / crime / mystery - Clues and red herrings (things that mislead the reader) 

2. Write Your Story (30–40 minutes) ✍️📖 - Begin with a strong opening that hooks the reader. - Build tension using: - Short and long sentences - Emotive language - Suspenseful clues - Include dialogue to show characters’ reactions. - End with a clear resolution of the mystery. 

3. Challenge Yourself (Optional) 🏆 - Use adjectives and adverbs to increase suspense. - Include at least one twist ending. - Try to write from the point of view of one character.

4. Creative Extension (Optional) 🎨🕵️‍♀️ - Draw a map of the setting with clues marked. - Create a character profile sheet for your detective or main characters.

  • I have used dialogue for characters.
  • I have built suspense using adjectives, adverbs, and varied sentence lengths.
  • My story has a clear ending that resolves the mystery.

  • Re-read your story and check it makes sense.
  • Read it aloud to check suspense.
  • Use the techniques we practised in class to make your story exciting!
