Literacy  Task - Encyclopaedia Entries

In our literacy writing journey, we have been learning about encyclopaedias and explanation texts. Please use what you have learned for this task.

 

  1. Conduct some further research on your favourite flight pioneer/s from our inquiry so far. 

  2. Use your research to write an encyclopaedia entry on your chosen pioneer/pioneers.

  3. Please use the following success criteria to help you plan your work and check it carefully.


 

Success Criteria:

I have used appropriate vocabulary correctly and spelled key words accurately.

 

I have organised my writing using clear paragraphs or headings.

 

I have written in a formal, factual encyclopaedia style.

 

My writing is in the third person.

 

I have included interesting and relevant facts that add detail.

 

I have avoided vague words like things, stuff, or it.

 

I use subordinating conjunctions. (E.g. However, although, contrary to, because…)

 

My writing teaches the reader something new.

 

I have included facts about the pioneer’s life.

 

I have included facts about the pioneer’s most notable achievements.

 

I have written about how my flight pioneer contributed to the development of aviation.
