Mathletics: Multiplication

We have been continuing to practise our multiplication. Focusing on writing them out and using them in problem solving. We have also been creating pictograms and bar graphs from data we have collected. This has led us onto reading and understanding graphs to answer questions.

*Beginning: Write out the following times tables from 1 to 12. 

*2 times tables

*5 times tables

*10 times tables

*4 times tables

They need to be written like this:

1 x 2 =

2 x 2 =

3 x 2 =

4 x 2 =

Etc.

** Developing: Creating a bar graph

Your challenge is to create a tally chart and following on from this a bar chart to show your results. Below is a success criteria for you to make sure you include everything. 

Your data can be about any question you like. For example, favourite colours, favourite football team or favourite ice-cream flavour. Try and ask as many people as possible to you can use high numbers.

Success criteria:

• Tally chart with a total (like the one we created in class)
• Your graph must have two axis, creating an L shape
• Both axis need to be labelled and underlined
• Your graph needs to have a title, underlined
• Each bar needs to be coloured in
• Your intervals, on your axis, need to be equally spaced.
• Each bar needs to be the same size.

Each box = 5 children

Answer the questions below, using the graph above.

1. How many children chose bananas as their favourite fruit?

2. Which fruit was the most popular? How do you know?

3. How many more children chose oranges than apples? Show your workings.
