We have begun our new literacy journey all about persuasive writing. There are some skills that we are going to practise at home to make us even better writers.

*Beginning:

There or Their?

A lot of children get this mixed up, so to practise please could you write 4 sentences using ‘their’ correctly and 4 sentences using ‘there’ correctly.

For example:

The children were happy their football team won the match.

There was a bee collecting nectar from the flowers.

** Developing:

Using connectives in our writing is a great way for us to extend our sentences. Below I have written a list of possible connectives. Please use these, or any others you can think of, to write 10 sentences with connective. Please use a mixture of connectives and not the same one every time.

List:

and / or / but / because / so / or / when / if

*** Mastery:

ď‚·Write a short story, or recount ,of a topic of your choice.

Your writing needs to include:

  • A beginning, middle and end
  • Is logical – makes sense
  • Use connectives in your sentences
  • Correct use of punctuation
  • Capital letters for nouns
  • Speech marks for speech
