Homework Task: Welsh Castles Research Project

Objective:
Create a Google Slides presentation to teach others about a Welsh castle or fort. A Google Classroom Tsk has been set so that you can complete on there. Pupils to upload their work to their own Google Drive folder. You will choose one from the following historical periods and use the Cadw website to research:

Choose ONE of the following to research:

1. Tudor Castle
    

   • Explore Tudor castles on Cadw [cadw.gov.wales]

   • Suggested sites: Raglan Castle, Tretower Court

2. Medieval Castle
    

   • Explore Medieval castles on Cadw [cadw.gov.wales]

   • Suggested sites: Caerphilly Castle, Beaumaris Castle, Conwy Castle

3. Roman Fort
    

   • Explore Roman forts on Cadw [cadw.gov.wales]

   • Suggested sites: Segontium Roman Fort, Y Gaer, Caer Gybi

Your Google Slides should include:

• Title Slide with your name and the name of the castle/fort

• Location of the site (map or description)

• Historical Period and who built it

• Purpose of the site (defence, home, power, etc.)

• Key Features (walls, towers, moats, gates, etc.)

• Interesting Facts or legends

• Images (from Cadw or your own drawings)

• Why is it important today? (e.g. tourism, heritage, learning)

Success Criteria:

To be successful, your presentation should:

✅ Clearly explain the castle’s history and purpose
✅ Include at least 5 key facts about the site
✅ Use your own words (not copy-paste!)
✅ Include a slide that teaches others why this castle matters today
✅ Be ready to present or share with your class
