Summer Term – Week 1
Dear Families,
What a fantastic and action-packed start we’ve had to the new term at Llangan!
A Gladiator’s Visit to Kick Off the Term!
On Monday, we had a memorable visit from none other than Steel the Gladiator (Zac), who inspired all our pupils with an energetic talk about healthy living. He emphasised the importance of drinking water, eating healthily, and staying active. Each child received their own special water bottle and a signed photo to remember the day!
A huge thank you to Manning Construction, DWA Accounts, and Pure Indulgence for generously sponsoring this event.
Pili Pala’s Feathered Friends!
Reception and Nursery had a surprise visit from Mrs Hughes on Wednesday, who brought along two of her chickens to support our learning about farms. The children loved learning about the life cycle of a chick and how the hens are cared for. Mrs Hughes asked for our help to hatch some eggs in class using her incubator – we can’t wait to become chick carers!
We were also delighted to welcome eight new Nursery starters this week – a big Llangan welcome to our newest pupils and their families.
Rags 2 Riches – Eco Owls in Action
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to our PTA’s Rags 2 Riches clothing collection on Tuesday. Your donations are helping raise funds for the school and promoting sustainable fashion and recycling.
A special shout-out to our brilliant Eco Owls for organising the collection so enthusiastically – fantastic teamwork for a great cause!
Whole School Farm Visit
Diolch yn fawr to the Penllyn Estate for welcoming us so warmly on our whole-school visit to launch our farming inquiries.
The children had an unforgettable day learning about life on the farm and how our food is produced. Every class is now exploring their own farming-themed inquiry with a unique twist – what a brilliant way to start our new learning journey!
Buzzing with Excitement!
On Thursday, we welcomed Jonathan from the Bridgend Beekeepers Association, who is helping us prepare to host our very own school beehive! He ran fascinating workshops with Years 4, 5, and 6, and followed up with a parent session after school. We’re so excited about the learning opportunities this project will bring.
Year 6 at Crucial Crew
On Friday, Year 6 had an exciting and informative morning at the Crucial Crew event, learning about personal safety and how to stay safe in the community. Huge thanks to all the organisations involved, including RNLI, National Grid, South Wales Fire & Rescue, ARA Recovery, Network Rail, and Wales & West Utilities.

We’ll also welcome Marion from Penllyn WI, who will share her memories of being a schoolgirl during the war and help us reflect on the importance of peace. It promises to be a very special event.

We’ve now begun our exciting new inquiries for this term. A copy of each class’s overview is attached to this newsletter. Printed versions will be sent home on Tuesday after the bank holiday.
Thank you for your continued support — we’re looking forward to a fun-filled and engaging summer term ahead!
