  • Dog-Free School Site Reminder

    Published 09/01/26

We would like to remind families that Llangan Primary School is a dog-free site, in line with guidance followed by schools across the UK. This is due to health, safety and safeguarding reasons. While we understand that dogs are part of many families and walking them to school may feel convenient, dogs can pose a risk if they become unsettled or get off the lead.

  • School open as normal โ€“ weather update

    Published 08/01/26

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to clarify some misinformation that has been circulating this afternoon.

Despite weather warnings for snow overnight and tomorrow linked to Storm Goretti, we have no plans to close school tomorrow. Llangan and the Vale of Glamorgan are not currently within the Met Office weather warning area, and school is therefore expected to be open as normal.

We have had a number of parents contact us to say they had heard that the school would be closed tomorrow. This is not correct, and I wanted to reassure everyone directly.

For clarity, our school closure protocol due to adverse weather is based on a number of factors:

    • If we are instructed to close by the Local Authority due to forecast life-threatening weather

    • If a site risk assessment indicates that conditions are unsafe for children or staff

    • If we do not have sufficient staff able to reach school safely to operate within legal staffing ratios

Our Site Manager, Mr Godwin, inspects the school site every morning at 6:00am. If weather conditions were to change significantly from the current Met Office forecast — for example, if we experienced heavy snowfall or unsafe site conditions — I would contact all parents as early as possible via text message, followed by an email.

In the unlikely event of a closure, work would be provided for children to complete at home and shared via the class pages on the school website. Further details would, of course, be communicated at that time.

This email is simply to dispel any misunderstanding and to reassure you that our plan is to be open as usual tomorrow.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

    Kind regards,
    James

  • Important reminder: Nut-free school

    Published 05/01/26

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to remind everyone that Llangan Primary School is a nut-free school.

We have a number of pupils and members of staff who have severe nut allergies, and exposure to nuts can cause extremely serious reactions. For some members of our school community, this could quite literally be a matter of life or death.

We kindly ask that no food containing nuts is brought into school, including in lunch boxes. This includes peanuts, tree nuts, and products made with or containing nuts (such as chocolate spreads containing hazelnuts).

As a reminder, our existing policy states that children may bring only fruit or vegetables for morning snack. We would also ask that you are particularly mindful when preparing packed lunches, ensuring they are completely nut-free.

We know this requires extra care when shopping and preparing food, and we really appreciate your cooperation. By working together, we can help ensure that our school remains a safe, inclusive, and caring environment for everyone.

Thank you for your continued support in helping to keep Llangan the wonderful community that it is.

    Kind regards,

    Mr Griffiths

  • Families Learning Together: Understanding Our Emotions

    Published 19/12/25

We are pleased to be working in partnership with Cardiff and Vale College to offer a Families Learning Together course at Llangan Primary School, focused on Understanding Our Emotions.

This free, interactive course is designed to support children and their families in exploring emotions in a positive, practical and engaging way. Through games, creative activities and storytelling, families will learn about different feelings and develop healthy strategies to understand and manage them together.

The course is open to children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, alongside their parents, carers or grandparents, and provides a valuable opportunity for families to learn side by side in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Sessions will focus on building confidence, improving communication and developing important social and emotional skills that can be used in everyday life.

By the end of the course, families will have created their own practical tools and strategies to help manage emotions at home and beyond. The sessions are designed to be inclusive, supportive and enjoyable for everyone involved.

The course will take place at Llangan Primary School on Wednesday 14th January at 9.00am. Families who wish to attend are asked to sign and return the slip to school.

If you would like more information, please contact families@cavc.ac.uk.

We look forward to welcoming families to this exciting opportunity to learn, reflect and grow together.
