Happy New Year!

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break. We would like to welcome you back to a new and exciting term in Dosbarth Gwenynen.

A very warm welcome to the children who have joined us since Christmas. We are so pleased to have you as part of our class and the children have already been settling in beautifully.

This term our topic is Puppets, and the children have been showing lots of enthusiasm and curiosity. Our inquiry question for this topic is:

Can we design and make a puppet story?”

Through this question, the children will explore creativity, storytelling, and problem-solving in a fun and practical way.

As part of our investigations this week, the children have been:

  • Exploring shadow puppets, learning how light and shadows work
  • Experimenting with light and coloured acetates to see how colours and shapes change

This has encouraged lots of discussion, questioning, and imaginative play.

For our role-play area, the children have been busy making labels for our puppet theatre, helping them to develop early writing skills, recognise letters, and understand that writing has meaning.

In maths, we have been measuring using multilink cubes, comparing lengths and sizes as part of our play and puppet-making activities.

We are really proud of how the children are engaging with our new topic, and we look forward to sharing more of their learning with you over the term.

Next Tuesday is our Jump In Day and formal introduction to our new topic. We have invited children to bring in any puppets they may have at home to share with the class. These may include finger puppets, hand puppets, sock puppets, marionettes etc.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,
The Dosbarth Gwenynen Team
