Feeling Festive!

Another busy week in Year 5!

This week, Year 5 began an exciting new writing journey all about having an eco-friendly Christmas. The children have been exploring ways to make the festive season more sustainable and have practised writing informal letters to their parents, carers and teachers to share their ideas.

In our RE learning, we have been discovering different Christmas traditions and exploring a range of religious festivals. This week, we learned about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. The children found out that Hanukkah is an eight-day celebration, often called the Festival of Lights. It commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of a small amount of oil lasting eight days. Families celebrate by lighting the menorah, playing the dreidel game, exchanging small gifts and enjoying special foods such as latkes and doughnuts.

We also enjoyed a fantastic trip to Cardiff to watch Sleeping Beauty at the New Theatre! The performance was full of fun, music and laughter – it really got us all into the Christmas spirit.

To top off the week, we had our final Forest Schools session of 2025. The children learned to build fires safely and even toasted marshmallows as a special treat.

We can’t wait to enter our final school week of 2025!
Have a restful weekend!
