Cardiff Castle Reports!

What a wonderfully busy week we’ve had in Year 5!

This week, we have been deepening our understanding of division. The children have been using their knowledge of times tables to help them explore a range of methods for dividing numbers. They showed fantastic resilience as they tackled trickier problems and applied their strategies with growing confidence.

We proudly completed our fifth writing journey of Year 5! The children became reporters as they planned and wrote their very own newspaper articles about an exciting incident at Cardiff Castle. They used all the writing skills they have been developing this term and then polished their work using Adobe Express. The results were fantastic—well-structured, creative, and full of detail.

We began our new mini inquiry, Christmas Around the World. The children were excited to research different Christmas traditions and discover why people celebrate in different ways across the globe. They asked brilliant questions and showed real curiosity as we compared cultures and customs.

We then transferred our learning from our newspaper report writing journey to produce a short news report about the Reindeer Parade in Cowbridge, which took place last week. The children enjoyed drawing on their reporter skills to describe the event clearly and informatively.

In science, we continued our learning about light. This week, we investigated how different coloured filters affect the visibility of objects. The children enjoyed experimenting and observing how light behaves when it passes through various materials.

Well done, Year 5, for another fantastic week of learning! Have a lovely weekend
