Castle Chronicles Podcasts
What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year 5!
The children have shown fantastic enthusiasm and teamwork as they took on a wide range of learning experiences across the curriculum.
This week, we continued developing our multiplication skills by using long multiplication to solve a variety of increasingly challenging problems. The class worked incredibly hard to apply their methods accurately and explain their reasoning. We are very proud of the progress they are making!
One of the highlights of our week was planning and recording our very own podcasts all about castles in South Wales. Using Adobe Express, the children collaborated brilliantly to script, rehearse and record their episodes. They made sure to include all the key features of a high-quality podcast, such as clear narration, interesting facts, and engaging delivery. Their teamwork and creativity really shone through!
In Literacy, we continued our learning about newspapers. The children explored subordinating conjunctions and looked at how they can be used to add detail and depth to journalistic writing. We also analysed a range of newspaper articles to identify important features such as headlines, captions, facts, opinions and quotes. The class enjoyed comparing how different newspapers choose to tell the same story.
To finish the week, we took part in our exciting Jump Out Day to conclude our inquiry question:
“Why were castles built, and how did they change Wales?”
Together, we created a wonderful class narrative poem reflecting everything we have learned about Cardiff Castle. The children drew on their historical knowledge, sensory descriptions and creativity to produce a poem we are all very proud of.
