What a busy and exciting week it’s been in Year 5!
In Maths, we’ve continued our work on addition and subtraction, focusing on multiple exchanges. Everyone has been showing great perseverance and care in setting out their calculations neatly and checking their answers carefully.
In Literacy, we’ve started our new writing journey linked to Cardiff Castle. We explored examples of non-chronological reports, identifying what makes a good one and spotting ways they could be improved. This will help us next week when we write our own reports after our visit to Cardiff Castle on Friday — we can’t wait to bring our learning to life!
During our Inquiry lessons, we have been learning all about Owain Glyndŵr, a fascinating figure from Welsh history. We generated thoughtful questions we’d love to ask him about his life and legacy. Some of us also had a chance to visit the school bees to check that they’re doing well after the honey harvest — and we were happy to see they’re enjoying their syrup feed!
We also celebrated two important events this week:
-Shwmae Day, where we greeted each other in Welsh and celebrated our language and culture.
-Show Racism the Red Card Day, where we discussed the importance of treating everyone with respect, dignity, and equality. We each made a pledge to help make our school a welcoming and inclusive place for all.
It’s been a wonderful week of learning, teamwork, and reflection. Da iawn, Year 5!
