Week Beginning 13th October 2025

All Hands on Deck in Pili-Pala 🏴‍☠️

This week in Dosbarth Pili-Pala, we’ve continued our exciting inquiry all about pirates! We’ve been learning who pirates were, what life was like on board a pirate ship, and the different roles each crew member had. The children loved creating their very own ‘Pili-Pala Pirates’ - drawing pictures of their characters and describing what they do on the ship, their special skills, and what makes them a great pirate. In maths, we’ve been learning all about money - recognising coins, counting them carefully, and using them to “buy” treasure just like real pirates.

Our enhanced provision areas have been full of pirate challenges! In the writing area, we described our pirates using adjectives and wrote short sentences to bring them to life. In maths, we used pirate treasure to practise ordering numbers — from 0–10, 0–20, and even in 2s, 5s and 10s! Over in construction, the children designed and built forts and pirate bases to protect their treasure, while in the creative area, they made their own treasure chests, decorating them with patterns and pirate symbols.

In our outdoor area, the children have continued their pirate adventures - cooking up pirate feasts in the mud kitchen, building ships, creating patterns in the sand, and sharing stories of life at sea.

On Wednesday, we celebrated ‘Shw Mae Day’ to promote and celebrate the Welsh language. The children loved greeting each other with “Shw mae?” and enjoyed practising short Welsh conversations, helping to build their confidence in using Welsh in everyday situations.

On Friday, we wore red to show our support for ‘Show Racism the Red Card Day.’ It was a meaningful opportunity for the whole school to stand together against racism, promoting kindness, unity, and respect ❤️
