🌟 Year 5 Weekly Blog 🌟
What a fantastic and busy week it has been in Year 5!
Literacy – Narrative Writing
This week, we have continued our narrative writing journey. The children have been planning and writing their very own quest stories inspired by castles. We focused on using a range of descriptive tools to make our writing exciting and engaging, including fronted adverbials, similes, and expanded noun phrases. The creativity and imagination shown in their stories have been wonderful to see!
Maths – Addition and Subtraction
In maths, we have been building on our understanding of addition and subtraction, tackling a variety of problems and using different strategies to check our answers. The children have shown great perseverance and growing confidence with these key skills.
Cynefin – Penllyn Castle
As part of our Cynefin learning, we explored Penllyn Castle and learned about the restoration work taking place there. We discussed the positives and negatives of restoring historical sites and shared our own thoughtful opinions about the impact on the community and heritage.
Digital Literacy – Research Skills
We have also been learning how to cite sources when researching online. This important skill helps us understand how to use information responsibly and give credit to the original authors of our sources.
Science – The Science of Light
Our new science topic, Light, has begun! We started exploring what light is, how we see things, and what happens when light is blocked or reflected. The children are full of curiosity and ready to investigate further.
Health and Wellbeing – Healthy Relationships
In PSHE, we have been thinking carefully about healthy friendships and relationships. We discussed different scenarios and how to respond positively, focusing on respect, kindness, and good communication.
It has certainly been a busy but productive week full of learning, teamwork, and creativity. Well done, Year 5!
