A Foodbank Trip and Assessment Week!
Year 6 have been ethical and informed citizens this week.
On Monday, Year 6 had the wonderful opportunity to deliver our school’s Harvest collection to the Llantwit Major Foodbank. We were proud to see how all the generous donations from our school community will help people locally. During our visit, we learned about the amazing work that happens behind the scenes; how the food is sorted, dated, and then stored carefully in the pantry ready to be distributed to those in need. It was a fantastic way to see our values of kindness and community in action.
Back at school, we’ve also been working incredibly hard on our autumn assessments in maths, spelling, and reading. Everyone has shown great focus, determination, and a positive attitude. We’re very proud of the effort and resilience shown by the whole class!
In science, we’ve really enjoyed carrying out a hands-on investigation into impact resistance, testing which materials provide the best protection when a 'bomb' (or a marble we borrowed from Mr Howles!) is dropped onto them. It’s been fascinating to see our learning about material properties come to life through a practical experiment.
We’ve also continued to dive deeper into our World War II inquiry, exploring how the war affected everyday life and making connections between history, geography, and the stories of real people.
It’s been a busy but rewarding week - full of learning, teamwork, and reflection on how we can make a difference both in and beyond the classroom.
Next week the children can wear red twice!
