Week Beginning 29th September 2025

A Pirate's life for Dosbarth Pili-Pala 🏴☠️⚓
What a brilliant start to our new inquiry this week as we set sail on our pirate adventure! On Monday, the children took part in our ‘Jump In Day’ where they had the chance to choose their own pirate-themed activities. Using pupil voice, they decided to walk the plank, learn a sea shanty, tell stories of stormy seas with the parachute, and get creative making pirate hats and flags.
On Tuesday, our class received a letter from the Jolley-Rogers, the pirate family from 'The Pirates Next Door.' They told us they had hidden treasure in our outdoor area and needed our help to find it! Armed with maps, the children set off to search for the treasure chests, carefully marking an X on their maps each time they made a discovery. Once all the treasure was collected, the children sorted the different items, carefully counting each type using 1:1 correspondence and then recording their totals on tally charts.
Our enhanced provision has been full of exciting challenges this week too. The children have been busy designing their own treasure maps, creating and building pirate ships, directing Beebots across a pirate map, solving treasure codes in the maths area, and building ships and flags from playdough and straws. Outdoors, the fun continued with a pirate training course, floating and sinking investigations, potion-making, and even a mud kitchen pirate banquet! Children worked together to design a large pirate ship with multiple decks, lookout towers, and cannons, using a range of 3D shapes in their designs.
Alongside all our pirate adventures, we have also spent time thinking about kindness and what it means to be a kind friend. The children made ‘kind hands’, writing or drawing on them the ways they can show kindness to others in our class and beyond.
We have enjoyed a week full of imagination, teamwork and creativity and we can’t wait to see where our pirate journey takes us next! 🏴☠️
Please note, on Friday 17th October, the school will be taking part in the Show Racism the Red Card 'Wear RED Day.' Children are invited to wear something red to school to show their support for this important cause ❤️
